I'm looking forward to Mary having a love interest. I just hope she doesn't go all bunny-boiler like she did with Norris! And where will she be living during this tryst? I know it may be unrealistic, but I'd love to see her mobile home back and we get some road stories with her and Brendan.

Thanks Philip. In my haste I got the names mixed up! All fixed now.

so all of the characters that we love are now leaving or "taking a break" yet TPTB keep bringing on new characters to add to the already established cast that are treated like highly paid extras. No storylines just part of the crowd. I guess they really are in a panic to stem the dismal ratings. I'm just looking forward to January and hopefully the new producer well set things right and clean house as they say.

I agree with Anonymous, all the good ones are going - Jason, Carla, Steve, and Lloyd has left too. :(

They should just rename the show Platt Street. Ugh.

I hope most of the departures are temporary - it looks like a list of my favourites!

I have to say I do not look forward to a pack of Connors. I find them unlikeable when there are 3 or 4 of them.
And this new gay female couple....is this to make a storyline for Sophie....cause goodness knows they do not have her do much else.

I'm all for cast taking time away if it keeps them happy and their characters fresh. However, I am very upset that Ryan Thomas is leaving. I like Jason and he has developed from a pretty wooden stick (okay, log) into an interesting, caring, and surprisingly insightful friend/brother/son. I hope his leaving includes a path back for visits or maybe even a return.

I'm not surprised Jason will be leaving the Street. I don't see much of a future for him anymore and no doubt the actor would enjoy trying other things. I suspect as part of his departure, Jason will take the blame for Callum's death (perhaps along with Tony) and both will either end up inside or on the run. No doubt 5 minutes from now the Platts will have all but forgotten the corpse buried under their floor and it will never be mentioned again.

I read somewhere that Spider and Curly were coming back..any truth in it?!

Anonymous said...

Ruth - no.

Is there any indications whether any of the new or returning characters will be regulars or will they only be short term? It's a tad confusing when they announce a new character and they put them in a big storyline but then they only last a few weeks.

Anonymous said...

Adding to the confusion is Eileen Derbyshire who went on a few months leave, even though she is not seen on screens for months at a time. One suspects she will not return due to health, age and a paucity of storylines.

Spider was "back" in name only as Emily was having a regular correspondence with him, and has now joined him in "Peru".

It amazes me that Corrie and Emmerdale have about the same size of cast yet Emmerdale has an extra episode a week. Worryingly it isn't even some of the underused actors that are choosing to leave, it is the bigger, popular characters, and likely they will be replaced with even more dead wood. Hopefully Kate Oates sees this a a way to downsize the cast and actually use all the actors at her disposal.

Andy and Michael can stay gone!

Anonymous said...

Michael can really stay gone. He was a horrible character. Started out like the cowardly lion then found a little courage. Boring whiner all the way around. I can go to work for that, don't need to see it on CS.

You forgot about Emily in the returning section!!

Boy was that a surprise to open the comment section and find an old one of mine from last October...???

That being said, I am VERY please Steve will be returning! He's been missed sorely on my TV!
I'm guessing that Tim is going to take over Lloyd's role in the cab office as Steve's comedy sidekick, and I'm looking forward to it!

What is going on (or NOT ) on hulu? hope I don't have to cancel my subscription! Haven't
seen an episode since friday!

Zagg said...

Wow, I didn't even realize that Andy was gone.

So glad to hear Sophie's on her way out, even if just for a bit. Such a bland, superfluous character.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Suz - can we make her break рermanent???

I'm disappointed to not see Eileen Derbyshire's name on the returners' list. If her six-month trip was due to finish late June she would be filming again by now? I miss not seeing Emily, even if she wasn't in it very often.

Antiphon said...

Yes, I am also disappointed to see no mention of Emily. I could be wrong but I suspect that Eileen Derbyshire will not be returning to the show. Perhaps it is up to the new producer whether she wants to use the character of Emily again.

Antiphon said...

If Emily does not return I wonder how she will be written out. It would not surprise me if her name was never mentioned again, leaving one to assume that she had decided to stay in Peru in much the same way that Ena Sharples was never mentioned again after the last appearance of Violet Carson in the role in 1980. I have not seen anything in the media as to whether or not Eileen Derbyshire intends to return.

Anonymous said...

what about steve? Is he back after his accident?

Louby said...

Still no word on Emily :(

Anonymous said...

Am I the only one not looking forward to Peter's return?

Anonymous said...

Sadly Anon 15.03 they say the cast is to get bigger because they'll be making an extra episode a week.

Anonymous said...

I think Craig Tinker's Dad is well cast, they look alike and Paul is a good actor.

Anonymous said...

I just hope they aren't going to reuse the same plot they always do with Peter (they probably will):

- Gets together with some woman
- Gradually destroys her life
- Cheats on her
- Runs away when the going gets tough

Anonymous said...

I agree with you 95% anonymous - the only thing I would change is
Gets together with Leanne as opposed to some woman
same old, same old

I was glad to see that Ozzy is still alive although after watching Friday's episodes I'm not sure where he or even Liam are? Put away in the cupboard are they??

Anonymous said...

To me....Michael only worked when he was with Gail. The writers ruined him for me when they put him with Eileen. He can go.....quickly....but I will miss Ozzy who is a dog and hardly ever seen.....lol

Louby said...

It's a mystery to me why they cast Les Dennis in such a miserable role. Getting together with Gail in the first place was good, the rest of his storylines, especially Eileen and fake Gavin, terrible.

Still no word on Emily.

Anonymous said...

Les should have reрlaced Norris in the cabin, if only to work with Rita and do Mavis imрressions (well I dooooon't really knowww!) :)

Anonymous said...

Anyone know where we in the U.S. can watch CS? Hull dropped it and I no longer get the Canadian station that got me hooked.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, that should have been Hulu dropped it. (Autocorrect)

I keep hoping every time I open this section to see that Pat Phelan is leaving. I am so sick of him. This storyline with him getting Andy to do all sorts of stuff is completely unbelievable. Please get rid of Phelan once and for all it's turning Corrie in to a big YAWN.

Anonymous said...

i agree - that Phelan has to go, he is so unpleasant to look at, and his story line with Andy is ridiculous. It is now becoming boring - hoping Eileen does NOT marry him - what a loser they both would be
