Coronation Street writer profile: Susan Oudot

A new Coronation Street writer has joined the ranks with Susan Oudot penning her first Corrie episode which aired on Sunday July 8th, 2012 at 7.30pm.

Susan is a novelist and television writer for programmes such as Casualty, Down to Earth and Blue Murder. She worked for publisher Faber & Faber for six years before joining Australian publisher Angus & Robertson, and from there the June Hall Literary Agency as an agent.

A few years’ later she was tempted to cross the line into journalism by the editor of Sunday Magazine, where she became Media Editor, before following the same editor to Woman’s Own magazine as Books and Fiction Editor, responsible for the commissioning of all short stories and the serialization of novels.

The author of several published short stories herself, she was encouraged to turn her hand to fiction and the result was her bestselling first novel, Real Women (Simon & Schuster), which she subsequently adapted for the screen as a three-part serial for BBC1. With nearly 11 million viewers, the show was re-commissioned, with the adaptation of the sequel novel, All That I Am. Two further novels followed – Virtual Love and Perfect – the latter adapted by Oudot for broadcast as a two-part drama on primetime ITV. She has since written episodes for established series on both networks and is currently developing a film and an original series for BBC TV.
