Where have you seen Diane the sofa woman before?

What a breath of fresh air Diane the sofa woman is on Coronation Street, and all the way from Hale Barnes too. How very bay window. She seems to have put a smile on Kev's face and I do hope it's not the last of her on screen and we see more of her on Corrie.

Diane the sofa woman is played by actress Julia Montgomery Brown.  She's American (not Canadian, as I first assumed) and has a wealth of acting experience.  See her IMDB profile here. She's even appeared in an episode of one of my favourite TV shows, The Sopranos.  She also runs her own photography company.

I hope she goes quick.
Her acting was brutallllll and everytime she used a bit of british slang it was like nails on a chalkboad.

I dont know if its her voice itself or her accent but she sounded like a robot.

Sorry but her scenes made me cringe. Seen better acting from one of the kebabs.

Whenever she used British terms it made me feel the lines were written for a British character but they decided last minute to hire an American. In fact I don't recall any specific mention made to her being American.

I can't decide which was more offensive the acting or the sofa.

I had a bit of a nails on chalkboard experience when hearing her too. Her drooling over Kevin is a bit weird too.

She was OK as a short cameo type character but it was all too contrived for me the way after her date with Kevin in the Bistro she is suddenly hanging around the Street next morning, miles away from her home and going into the corner shop only to have Owen blurt out the truth.

HEre's the thing. If you are not British but have lived there for years, or have close friends or family (or watch a lot of British Telly) then you pick up those phrases and words and use them. You can't help yourself. I didn't have a problem in the least with Diane using non-American slang because it's believeable that she would have picked it up, living there for years. Some people even pick up a bit of an accent, in my experience.

Besides agreeing with all the other comments on her acting, couldn't they have found an actress that didn't tower over Kevin?? He looks like he's with his momma.
