Here at Coronation Street Blog Towers we have been receiving reports of a tragedy set to hit our beloved cobbles.
Michelle Collins, who plays annoying bar manager Stella Price, appeared on the Lorraine show this morning and revealed that Stella and Karl will be buying the Rovers Return when Steve sells it to pay off his debts. (Well there's a surprise)
They will initially have problems getting the cash together: "They struggle to get the money together to get a mortgage. And they're turned down by a few people because they're 'too old'. But then you'll see what happens."
So what's it to be? Windfall from a dead relative? Lottery win? One of Karl's yankees coming up? At least with an inveterate gambler in the picture we have the grain of hope that Karl will get them into so much debt that it all goes wrong and Stella has to leave the Street forever. But I'll not be holding my breath as the producers seem to be convinced that the character of Stella is successful. Either that or they've invested so much in the character that they can't back down now.
Michelle also had this to say: "I'd love to create another iconic character, I think Stella seems to be a bit like the Mother Teresa of Corrie - suddenly she's everybody's agony aunt. They're injecting a little bit of steeliness into her. I think people have got to like you first, but now she gets involved in some big storylines. The love triangle between Carla, Leanne and Peter, she's very much involved in that."
I'm sorry Michelle but if Stella were going to be an iconic character then there'd be some sign of it by now and there isn't.

Earth shattering news, Stella is to buy the Rovers. Obviously Phil C is watching a different programme as usual as Stevie Wonder could see the character is boring and insipid and just hasnt gelled. Obviously Karl will have a big win on the casino and will buy the Rovers for Stella - not predictable at all - yawn!
I really dislike the character of Stella and the way she has been portrayed by Michelle Collins.
I never had the opportunity to watch her in anything else, but to my thinking she just doesn't seem to *fit* on the Street.
In recent years it seems the Powers That Be have developed the annoying habit of wanting to fob some characters onto the viewers expecting them to be instantly loved or accepted. Sometimes this doesn't work - which I don't think is a reflection on Michelle Collins so much as how the writers have created Stella.
Just my thoughts.
I assume that Michelle Collins' quote was written by Corrie's publicity machine. Surely, she doesn't really believe that. Maybe when PC goes, the new producer won't feel obliged to keep her beyond her contract.
I was willing to give her a fair chance but they've hardly done much with her and she's just bland. Karl, on the other hand, i like.
I've tried very, very hard to like Stella but she's a big diappointment. Her accent, her brittleness, the way Corrie (or rather Phil Collinson) has tried to force the audience to take her to our hearsts - it's all failed. Get rid of Stella but leave Karl and Eva.
It seems like Stella has already been involved in nearly every storyline. PC might as well have stuck a neon sign above her head saying: "I'm a lovely person me, so caring". Unfortuntely, I just find her irritating. The phrase fish out of water springs to mind. And I like Michelle Collins and also tried to like Stella. Karl is a much better character.
At this rate,PC will have Stella saving Peter & Leanne's troubled marriage, preventing the deaths of three characters, putting out six fires and raising over a million pounds for charity within the next month alone. I'd much rather have someone with personality as a Rovers owner.
Well let's live in hope that when Phil Collinson's contract comes to an end and a decent producer is taken on, then Michelle Collins contract is ended as soon as and her stint at the Rovers is short lived. An icon, she is an embarrassment. The worst "landlandy" ever
I am begining to like Karl and eva when they are in scenes without Stella.
ITV have pushed this useless character into every storyline they can and she has proved she is totally incapable of fitting in. He accent is pathetic just like her acting. Her arrival storyline was the biggest joke since the ridiculous return of the equally useless and talentless Kate Plank as traceyluv. Wise up Corrie and get shot of them both.
I cannot believe that Steve will no longer be the owner of the Rovers which will almost certainly mean a scaling down of the role of one of Corrie's best characters.
It's another silly decision by Corrie bosses.
I am hoping she will be axed when another producer comes along. She waas only cast because she is Phil Collinson's mate (which is probably why they have to get her involved in everything and make her such an annoying goody goody). We are meant to think "Oh, she is so wonderful, supporting Carla for her rape, even though she doesn't know her much". Or "Stella is so kind to help Lloyd with his accounts and all taht".
I will never place Stella with the likes of Bet Lynch, Annie Walker, Natalie Barnes or even Shelly.
Agree with all the comments so far. I find stilted Stella wooden, insipid and contrived. I was harbouring some vain hope that given the unpopularity of the character the axe would be wielded. The publicity machine keeps trotting out that she is warm and popular...please can someone point me to the evidence?
How can Corrie afford to have both the character and the actor who plays the character be as unpopular as Stella/Michelle has turned out to be?
This is especially so when the character is central to all the storylines, behind the pub, interacting and interfering with all.
No I do not like Stella or Karl. And I am from Australia, I've never seen her in anything else but the Illustrated Mum and that was after Coro, so there is no bias or anything. The characters are both cold and uninteresting and unlikeable.
And it's annoying they are treated as so important when they just arrived and no one cares about them.
If you say CORRIE ICON, then who do you think of - perhaps we could have a blog about it? Bet Lynch, Hilda Ogden, Annie Walker, Vera Duckworth? Certainly not this stiff wooden bland actress with two expressions and a foony accent which is what Michelle Collins will be remembered for on her stint on Corrie. Shows what a big mistake nepotism is, putting friends and family in programmes for which they are just not suited instead of getting an unknown.
