Former Coronation Street actors Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) and Vicky Entwistle (Janice Battersby) are taking leading roles in The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice which opens at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on May 15 2015.
Actress Nancy Sullivan stars as LV, a painfully shy girl with a bold and beautiful voice, whose blowsy mother Mari, played by Vicky Entwistle, shrieks and shouts her way around the house, all-the-while Chris Gascoyne’s Ray Say engineers his escape from small town show-biz to the bright lights of the big-time.
Director of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and artistic director of West Yorkshire Playhouse, James Brining said: “Nancy has an incredible voice that can transport you and Vicky and Chris have an intuitive understanding of Mari and Ray. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Alongside playing Coronation Street’s infamous Janice Battersby Vicky Entwistle has also been seen in The Bill, her credits for the stage have included roles in Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, Bill Kenwright’s Funny Peculiar and Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables.
This brand new staging of The Rise and Fall Of Little Voice is a co-production between Birmingham Repertory Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse where it transfers to following it’s opening in Birmingham.
It runs from May 15 to May 30. Tickets: £7-£35. Click here for more details and to book tickets.

I can very well imagine Chris Gascoyne, and Vicky Entwistle as well, being excellent in their parts.
So glad to hear that Chris Gascoyne has gone on so quickly to another project.
I miss his character but anyone could see that there was really no where else to go with it.
Wish I could see Chris....sounds interesting! *hopefully* he will return to the cobbles down the road...
I would love to see it!
I saw it a couple of years ago, when Beverley Callard was supposed to be in it as but she was "indisposed" so her understudy went on. Only booked to see her so was bitterly disappointed. Anyhoo, the play itself was OK but not nearly as good as the film.
Can't really imagine CG in the role of Ray Say, it needs a big bloke with a big personality, CG isn't either.
Not surprised CG has gone straight into another project as has Ian Pulson Smith. Jimmi Mystry will soon be in another role as well because they are all great actors. Unfortunately for us, the less gifted actors hang on forever to the Corrie gravy train.
