Julie Walters not joining Coronation Street... yet

For the second time this week, the Daily Mirror have run an untrue Coronation Street story.  Earlier this week they wrongly reported that Hilda Ogden actress Jean Alexander had died and then later apologised for the distress the story had caused.

And today The Mirror reports that actress Julie Walters is joining Coronation Street.

She's not.

Am ITV Coronation Street spokesperson confirms to Digital Spy: "Julie is a fantastic actress, so it would be great to have her on board in the future if the right role came up and if she had time in her busy work schedule. However, there are no plans at the moment for her to join the show."

Julie is a big fan of the show and said earlier this year that she would like to join the show, but that her busy schedule doesn't allow her to do so... at the moment.

Of course, she has been "in" Coronation Street already, you know (sort of)... have a look at this:

That was great!
Really funny, so typical of the characters and so well done!
Julie Walters really does have a 'feel' for the characters.
I used to think I wouldn't really like to see well-known actors appearing as characters on the show, but Niger Havers changed my opinion, he was so fabulous as Lewis, and I'm sure he left with viewers wanting more.

I love Julie Walters and think she would fit in no matter what role they gave her. I don't see why well-known actors or other personalities can't make cameo appearances in one-off roles such as Hospital Consultants, job applicants, Spiritual advisors, etc. Julie Walters could conduct the next Corrie wedding. Cameos would be a lot of fun for everyone. Can you imagine a scene like Jenson Button showing up as the taxi-driver for the the next "departure"?? Or Gordon Ramsey applying for a job in the Kebab shop? Maybe won't even have to talk, just appear. Would be fun and not take up too much time in a very busy schedule.

I agree about cameo roles anonymous - I remember the Рet Shoр Boys turning uр as taxi drivers in 'neighbours' in the 80s - that was fun
