Where have you seen Audrey's date Henry before?

Eagle eyed Coronation Street fans will have spotted that Audrey's date Henry Wilkins has been on Coronation Street before  He played Harry Potts.

According to Corriepedia, Harry Potts was a corrupt Councillor who popped up to give Derek Wilton a hard time back in late 1992. He also appeared in July 1995, having a run in with the one and only Audrey Roberts.

Harry is played by Russell Dixon who also played Ena Sharples in the stage version of Corrie's 1968 plays at The Lass o'Gowrie in Manchester, January 2012. Find out more.

Russell Dixon also played Dave Barnes on Coronation Street in 1979. Dave Barnes warned Ken Barlow to stop teaching his wife Karen to read and write but Ken refused guessing correctly that Ken would discover that Dave was also illiterate.  Dave broke into Ken's house, frightening Uncle Albert and threatening to kill Ken. Ken caught him off guard and punched his lights out.

Does anyone know why he is not playing Harry Potts? Seems odd that they would bring him back in a similar role with a different name!

Yes I did wonder. I know people named Harry are often called Henry so he could be the same person but the radio Times has him listed as Henry Wilkins, not Henry (or Harry) Potts. Most odd.

mind you, he was fantastic and quite scary as ena sharples.

What am I missing? You said Harry Potts was a "corrupt councillor" who had a "run in" with Audrey Roberts. Audrey would not now go out with him so they had to give the actor another identity, surely?

He defrauded the mayoral charity fund and set Alf up to take the blame. Audrey helped expose him. Audrey now dating him would be strange!

Looks like Harry the councillor has been brought back as Henry the councillor and we're not supposed to notice ;-)

I think a question has already been asked of why do they keep using the same actors for different characters when there must be thousands that would jump at a part in Corrie. Of all the restaurants in Manchester on NYE why would they go to the Bistro? (again)

Audrey did mention he was an old friend of Alf's, so he could be the same person.

Clearly not the same person, as Potts was no friend of Alf. Unfortunately I recognised him as Harry Potts immediately, with all the baggage that entails, so my suspension of disbelief was shattered. There is no shortage of actors who they could have used, so why bring back this still very recognisable one?
