The new Ryan Connor - what do you think so far?

He's not been back five minutes and the twitterverse is up in arms over the new Ryan, or as we like to call him here on the Coronation Street Blog, re-run-Ryan.  Why? Check out his past here.

Anyway, he's a bad 'un and no mistake, this time around. He's set fire to Kev's new house, tried to snog Sophie, dissed his mother, dissed the Kirkster, tried to cop off with Eva and threatened to sue Underworld after faking an accident. And then there's the drugs problem to come...

Express your displeasure below.

I have to say, at the moment he's a more convincing actor than his on screen uncle. Maybe the other will get better. And it's enjoyable to watch his antics, that mixed in with a desire for someone on screen to slap him.

He is much easier on the eye than his Uncle Staffordshire Bull Terrier. And Ryan used to be so meek and mild as well.

I'm liking Ryan's character, he's childish and selfish, but that's what makes him interesting.

He's a good actor and easy on the eye. Don't approve of what Ryan is doing, but he's believable as a frustrated, petulant man child and bringing out new facets of Michelle (who I'm liking lately) and Sophie. Okay so far.

He's better than I thought he'd be. He's bound to go too far and Michelle will have to save him. Interesting.

Before he left he did discover the woman that brought him up wasn't his real mum. That's bound to have an effect.

We need a bad boy since David Platt went soft.

He's an obnoxious little shit. If either of my 2 sons behaved that way towards me or others ... he'd get a slap in the face, a kick in the ass, and thrown out the door. He has NO redeeming qualities.

Agree with the obnoxious remark, but i don't think he's supposed to have any redeeming qualities at this point and it's only going to get worse. But I also agree he's a good actor and far better than the last one.

I think he's a total departure from the last time we saw him. I'm not yet convinced about the character overhaul but if he drives michelle back into the arms of Stevie boy, it'll be worth it.

I wonder if the baby swap storyline will be mentioned at all.

I thought the phrase he used last night - "You're supposed to be my mum" was an extraordinary one, given the circumstances, loaded with far more subtext than if it had been said by any other teenager.

I dunno if that line was meant to be a hint or if the writers have actually forgotten it as it was a big storyline twist years ago that eventually just went nowhere.

Then again the writers could be siezing the fact its a forgotten storyline to bring an extra shock. Maybe throw "he's my son, hes my real son" references at us then re-reveal to newer audiences the hospital mix up so its a shock all over again, which might be a clever way of storytelling.

To OTT right out of the gate. Again..the writers throwing in a character without any build up at all. I don't see the chemistry at all between Michelle and her screen son. Now we are supposed to believe that he's a coke-head. Sure.

Bad, arrogant and no remorse when caught. Gonna be quite a ride with him, lots for Norris to chew on! Don't think he's that much of a looker. Agree about Steve & Michelle - that could be interesting.

I can't stand him! There is nothing of the old Ryan in there and he looks old enough to be dating his own mom. I cringe when he is on the screen and pray that he will make a hasty exit from the show.

Danny-K said...

Actually, he could date his mum as he's not related to her at all, in any way shape or form, as there's no blood-tie there is nothing legal to stop them.

Agree with maggie muggins, he's no looker, imo. Also agree he's too old looking for the character's age. Doesn't do it for me. Not that the previous actor gave stirling performances, but was pretty benign in the teenaged crowd of the time.

Don't like him, character changed too much, should have followed the original thread, bring the original Ryan back now please.....before I throw something at the little sh****head on my screen.

He's a turd.......also, totally out there remark Danny, not sure which is more worrying, the fact that this could happen, or that you thought of it!!

Tvor said...

It's not that "out there" that Ryan could fancy Michelle because we've been there, done that with Frankie and Jamie. Bleurgh.

Totally agree with this! The actor is mid 20's where as the first actor was more nearer his characters age. I preferred the quiter Ryan, this Ryan might as well be a completely different character. Ruined him

I really don't like this new Ryan at all; and it's not just the storyline, but his whole demeanor.

Actor is far too old (and looks too old) to be Ryan. He looks like he should be Michelle's new boyfriend, the old Ryan was no great actor but at least resembled a teenager, I'm guessing this new guy is at least 27, shades of Luke Perry from 90210 the oldest teenager in the world. Story line is good though, just needed genuine bratty teen to play part!
