Coronation Street Double Episode Review Monday September 1st September 2014

Carla is experiencing a hold up with her work tops. She adds that by the time her place is sorted she'll need a stair lift. As siblings do, Rob tells  her she looks  a little like Thora Hird - some younger readers might not know that Thora Hird was the actress who advertised stair lifts.

Peter is critical and so Ken has no choice but to ask Carla to go to see Peter. 'This might be my son's last wish - how could I not?' What parent wouldn't do that? Understandably, Carla is conflicted and decides to go to The Canaries to get away from it all - at least she got in the taxi to the airport - in Steve's fastest time mind - but shortly afterwards she was back. her actions show that no matter how badly someone treats  you, it is impossible just to stop caring for someone in an instant.

Ken is hopeful that Peter will recover, but Rob points out that even bookies run out of luck.

Carla goes to the hospital and the first people she sees on her return are Ken, Rob and the lovely Tracy, who despite her brother being so ill, manages to take her mind off things by attending the wedding fayre, aptly entitled Richer or Poorer. Earlier Carla had made clear her feelings known about chocolate fountains. 'Tacky' she declared 'Unhygienic - all sorts in there.' Which is enough to put anyone off.

The scene with Rob alone with Peter in the hospital was powerful - particularly the bit about how they are both going to the same place and that neither of them will need a coat.

Todd is having a rough time with the forceful and dominating Tony. Tony is issuing orders to Todd with no thought for his feelings. Todd is paying the price. 'You're whatever I say you are until the foreseeable,' snarls Tony.

Meanwhile £2000 is offered by Tony in compensation for Tyrone's accident. Fizz will talk to Tyrone, but it seems we have not seen the last of this. Tony is desperate to protect his son's business. Will the truth about the inadequate materials come out or is Tony deft enough in his effort to conceal the truth.

Kylie is clearly distressed about how the house looks and of course in a more rational moment she would see that as long as the house is reasonable and there's not rubbish strewn everywhere. Kylie makes a telling comment revealing how she really does not enjoy having to deal with people of authority. 'I've been judged by people like her all my life.' The child psychiatrist arrives and seems unfazed and Michael has covered up his tag. Gail though, becomes ridiculous and tries to impress by putting on an upper class accent ands asking if their visitor would like a cappuccino.

Steph had  much to deal with as Luke and Katy hammed it up making Steph think they were really in a relationship. Though she claims she knew, she was real saving face and as she said, she likes ice cream and chips, just not together.

Ken knows that it is Jim who found and raised the alarm for Peter and as he says in The Rovers, 'Everyone deserves a second chance,' which might make Liz and Steve start thinking ...

What a joy it was to see Toad brought down a peg or two. Tonys turn next.

Call me old fashioned but if they're raising two kids and Fiz is putting her money into renovating Ty's house, I think they should get married. If nothing else, it protects them and the girls legally if an issue should arise.

I'm still really liking Michael. Sanest one in that house. And it is good to have Ken back. Wonder if he played cricket at Uni?

Tyrone is now getting the extension done free - a loft extension would cost around £25k so even at mates rates - say £15k they are now saving that so why is Fizz bleating on about poverty. She seemed to have enough money to ride around in taxis instead of getting the bus the other day.

And Rob's "deathbed" confession was done in a film although Frosty cannot remember which, when the real killer confesses to the dying one that has been blamed, only for him to recover and remember the conversation! K

Ken really guilt tripped Carla didnt he!!!

Naturally, Rob blames Peter for wrecking his sister's life. Just as Tracy blames Carla for wrecking her brother's. My sympathies are with Tracy. At the end of the story, when Rob is dead and Peter has moved away, leaving a trail of emotional destruction, I hope someone takes Carla to task over this. Blanche would have given Carla a few home truths and now that responsibility passes to Deirdre. Carla pursued Peter in the first place, ignoring the fact that he had a wife and son. Previously, she'd told Tony that her affair with Liam would have stopped as soon as he found out about Maria's pregnancy. But Peter was weak and Carla exploited that weakness. If she'd really loved Peter, she would have let him go. Deirdre, or Tracy, should tell her as much and say that this is what happens when you insist on splitting up a family. True, Peter might have cheated on Leanne with Tina but nobody would have died.

Interesting that many people see Carla as a flawed hero who is easily forgiven. Well, one person's flawed hero is another person's d**k head. And the more I see of her, the more I feel it's a generation thing. If I was in my 40's, I might truly feel for Carla but in my sixties, I take a more pragmatic view. You make your bed and you lie on it. Oh, I wish Blanche was still around to tell her so.

So Humpty Peter has no blame for cheating on Leanne with Carla? Why does the blame lay solely with the female?

And again, Peter has an affair and this time you do not blame neither Peter nor Tina but Carla?! That makes no sense whatsoever.

In an affair the two partaking in the affair are the ones to blame. No one else.

Humpty,Carla is the only victim in this mess, she gave Peter a real future and in return he slpet with Tina while she was spending time with a dying friend. As for Tracy,I have no sympathy for her as she will finally get her comeuppance when it hits the fan about Rob.It wasn't so long ago that she was willing to lie that Gail murdered Tina's father and now her life hopefully will soon be destroyed by Rob's lies.
If Fiz complains that she and Tyrone are 'broke',why doesn't she go back to work?

I've grown to really like Carla, but I have no sympathy for her with the Peter situation. She had done to her exactly what she did to Leanne. Carla was shocked because Tina pretended to be her friend, and Carla pretended to be Leanne's friend while relentlessly pursuing her husband. And I don't put all the blame on Carla for splitting up Peter and Leanne, Peter was equally to blame. I was surprised that Carla was attracted to such a weak man, and she should have known "If they'll do it with you, they'll do it to you." And as for Peter being the love of her life, I thought that was Liam. Or is every man the love of her life? But I am also looking forward to the smug grin being wiped off Toxic Tracy's face when this all blows up. Bonnie from the Cariboo
