The Year of the Platts

David and Kylie are back on the road to reconciliation but Nick and Leanne have just about flipped the marraige off the straight and narrow and look about to roll it into the ditch. This storyline has been running for a year and I, for one, have enjoyed it all. For a potted summary of the twists and turns, read over here.

Do you think Nick and Leanne will ultimately be ok or will they hit the skids permanently?

Nick and Kylie will "do the dirty" again.

Much as I hated it when they split Peter & Leanne up,Nick & Leanne have grown on me & I would like to see them stay together.
Peter on the other hand, has gone right down in my estimation with his affair with Tina. ( Yes I do know it's not real!!!!)

I really hope that Nick and Leanne stick it out and get over any romance Leanne might have. Not because I'm starry-eyed about them or even because they have terrific charisma - Peter and Leanne were the outstanding couple in my opinion. I want them to get over their troubles because, mainly due to JD's performance, Nick and Leanne come across as a mature couple who have both been round the block several times and realise romantic love isn't everything. That's not settling for second best. It's emotional maturity, understanding that domestic contentment beats sexual euphoria any day of the week. They have a child to consider, and a business, and they like each other. What a change from other young marriages on the Street. They could be a long-term couple.

I fully agree Humpty, couldn't have put it better myself!

Wow, really good comment Humpty Dumpty. I agree with everything you said.

What Humpty said!

These days, Leanne doesn't strike me as someone who would have an affair and I truly hope she doesn't have one with Kal. With Nick's recovery, (potential) jealousy of rotten mom Kylie's ability to have children when she can't, a (potential) rekindled friendship with cheated on Carla,... there's enough good story making stuff that one tired old plot doesn't need to be trotted out again.

Surely if it's been anyone's year on Corrie this year it's been Roy and Hayley?

I'm really quite bored with the whole Plattilsley saga -- too many twists and turns and no resolution. It also struck me the other day that nobody stays together! Hayley and Roy, and Deirde and Ken, seem to be the only ones who have lasted more than a year so far. Gail stayed with Martin for several years, for instance, but it seems like nowadays they barely shake the rice out of their hair and someone is having an affair or dying or what have you. The Street needs long-term couples; there are more stories for couples beyond breakups and babies. Look at Jack and Vera -- they had plenty of storylines without breaking up and getting back together umpteen times.

A long term couple on the cobbles? Surely not..it's just not on!! ;)

I think Leanne will be reaching out for some comfort and a bit of fun after all Nick's put her through. It won't be love, it'll just be a fling though Kal might fall for her, that's my speculation anyway

I like that Leanne and Nick are first loves reignited. I think they could last. That is of course unless the writers go and do a personality transplant like they have done with a couple of other characters.....Rita, Beth, etc.

I am sick to the back teeth of the Leanne/Nick drama - it's not interesting, shocking or even deep; just dull. They need to part company.

Love the scenes with Leanne and Nick. Now that Kylie and David are back on track, they have time to develop that storyline sensitively and maturely. Let's hope "they" do.

Would love for Ted to return.

"Domestic CONTENTMENT", that sounds like settling to me. How about actually being happy,it's nothing to do with "sexual euphoria".

Frosty is also sick to the back teeth of Plattsville. David pulling bad faces, the grubby little Kylie, Aud calling everyone Sweed tart, Nick with his wallowing in misery. The uber irritating Gail. Only decent one is Leanne who needs a storyine away from Jug Ears and his poor old me face.

I'd like to see Nick actually going through various stages of recovery, whether it's psychological and/or physical. I think Leanne has committed herself this time, no matter what. She may have a fling, not sure if Nick could deal though.

I liked her with Peter, but he seemed to be a different person then. He even seems to be acting differently, the actor I mean. What's with that? He changed the way he "does" Peter when he & Carla came back from California.

Tvor, do you some inside info? You always seem to have a theory that comes true! Whether you do or not, I like that you keep it relatively spoiler free.

The one wrong that really needs to be righted (believably or not!) is to let Gail have her own house back. It really seems too cruel that two yobs can continually threaten to throw poor old Gail out of what should be still her own home. And wouldn't it be lovely to see Gail with a smile on her face for once?

Tvor said...

No i don't have inside information, I've just been watching soaps for many many years and can spot a plot coming a mile away an awful lot of the time. I'm not always right but it's fun to speculate.

I enjoyed this storyline actually. The actors really got their teeth into it - esp Jane D - she is brilliant as usual.
I still think that Kylie and Nick belong together - great chemistry there. David is a favorite of mine..he's just so damaged - just like his Mum. Audrey and Gail seemed to have mended fences so hopefully there's some comedy coming from those two - they are a great team.

Frosty loved your comments at 8:25 and agree 100%! Jug ears is an apt description of Nick! He is not that great of an actor and it is really showing with the heavy scenes he has been given. I'm sick of the entire family.
