Alan Halsall reveals more nastiness for Kirsty and Tyrone

There's a good interview with Alan Halsall, who plays Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs, on Digital Spy today.  Alan reveals the Kirsty and Tyrone abuse storyline will get worse, just when you think it couldn't get much darker.

Alan praises his Corrie cast member Natalie Gumede, who plays Kirsty, and says he has received feedback from men in the same situation as Tyrone.

He says: "I suppose we are only telling a story at the end of the day, but if we can help just one person to come out and speak about what's happened to them, then it can only be a good thing."

Alan also says that there's going to be a baby bombshell for Tyrone next week. Ooh, we know what it is - it's here.

To keep this storyline going as long as possible, Tyrone probably won't do the obvious - at least for a while. He would see a solicitor with a view to getting a court order for a DNA test. I hope Fizz suggests it. It would be interesting to hear Tyrone's thoughts.

I just love these two characters so much and their scenes together are pure gold. Alan and Natalie have been the two stand outs this year and have done such a brilliant job with this story. Watching these actors working together is a real treat. Full credit to both the actors and writers for this story.

Natanlie Gumede is riveting. How is it that she did not win at the awards?
I am actually glad the writers have decided to show the other side of the coin in this case. You can clearly see Kirstie becoming her father and Tyrone, her mother so to speak. The whole cycle of abuse can pass through generations. Bravo to the writers for having the guts to tackle this and doing it with sensitivity.

I don't want social issues being "tackled", thank you. It's proven to be the kiss of death for lost of shows. Let's have some good comedy and plenty of laughs and entertainment. If I want to be educated about social ills, I'll read the Guardian.

you know what would make a really good follow up to this blog post? a blog detailing all the stories corrie has never done, such as male domestic violence and surrogacy. of the top of my head corrie has never covered eating disorders, hiv/aids, cot death, triplets, saviour sibling, assisted suicide and long term mental disabilities such as downs syndrome. maybe they should.

Natalie and Alan have been brilliant in this storyline and a shame she didn't win an award. So much better than the dim wit surrogacy story though maybe this is a vehicle for Owen's return to Mr. Nasty?

I don't like this storyline . I tape the show and fastforward. Give Ty a break and not via Kirsty.

I think what's setting this storyline above the dire surrogacy one is that it seems much more refective of the characters involved. Poor old Ty really is desperate for a family, so he's likely to kid himself into thinking that Kirsty will change. The surrogacy story, on the other hand, is just an issue-of-the-week plonked on top of a bunch of characters who happen to be available.

The difficulty with this story is that while I want Tyrone to get a paternity test and prove the child is not his, where will this leave the poor babe? I can't imagine anything would improve by making Kirsty a single parent and I can't believe that Tyrone would put the child at risk, particularly because he wants a family so badly. There's nothing for it, he'll have to raise the baby with Fiz.

I agree with Anonymous above - Nathalie G. Is absolutely riveting! What a complex character to play and how well she brings all of the aspects across. Alan H. is also just going from strength to strength and their partnership on screen is excellent. Bravo! - NN
