Go on then - who's your Corrie guilty pleasure? For me it's the hapless slapper Kylie Platt, perennial rough diamond and dodgy mother. With something bordering on relief I welcomed her back to our screens this week. Unlike some other Street residents, and courtesy of the wonderful Paula Lane, Kylie has numerous sides. They usually seem to compete for prominence - drunken Kylie, angry Kylie, repentent Kylie - but who cares when you have an actress as watchable as Paula. Although I love a nice bit of character development, I would be quite happy to see Kylie lurch from one disaster to another. Her over reactions are marvellous and I bet we still have a few more chances to see her slam her way out of Gail-in-Bloom's front door.
It should have been a joyful week on the cobbles. In an ideal world, the regulars would have been collecting for Tina's wreath. Stella would have left a sherry glass on the bar of the Rovers so that her friends (who are they exactly?) could leave a very small donation. They would have gathered in sad recollection, recalling the lack of fun times they had with her. After the funeral, a wistful Stella would have jammed a passport-sized photo on the Rovers wall secured by a piece of chewing gum, the emotive phrase "Tina Hatchet-Face, Rover's Misery 2010-2012" scribbled underneath.
Anyway, this isn't an ideal world and so Tina returned to the joyless flat and her equally joyless boyfriend. Whatever happened to cheeky, fun-loving Tommy? In a word, Tina. Poor old Tommy is now a sulky drugs mule for bovine-faced Rick. At least if Tommy makes a few quid on the side, he can buy himself a t-shirt that doesn't threaten to reveal his man-cleavage at any moment.
Which brings us on to Sunita. This particular storyline staggers from bad to worse. The writers may as well have Sunita sat in the middle of the Corner Shop astride a giant banana, lowering her eyes and licking her lips. The trollopisation of Sunita is one of the most grisly character changes we have ever had to witness. It's horrid. The whole saga needs to be taken outside and shot. It would be the kindest thing to do.
Three cheers this week though for the lovely Rita, octogenarian bride-to-be. She and Dennis got one over on snotty Norris and his camp nastiness. It's like having some evil Liberace serving sweets. Sean should take a good look at Mr Cole because that's what he'll be in twenty years time.
I'm still trying to work out the relevance of Eva Price. Her scenes seem to comprise of her stomping up and down the cobbles with that oversized handbag on the crook of her arm. What does she keep in there? Her personality? It is difficult to care about Eva and her wizened boyfriend, clattering around in the world's smallest bistro. Maybe we will warm to her eventually. And then again . . .

Very fun! :) I, too, prayed for he demise on Tina but much like a rat she comes back again and again. The notion that Tina and Tommy are meant to be the new Jack and Vera would be laughable if not so pathetic.
LOL
Enjoyed blog on subject Eva needs a kick up the backside and a personality exchange so loking forward to more Rita stories she will make a glorious bride
Great review! Tommy seems to have morphed from lad-about-town into Tommy Turnip, but with slightly less charisma. KlingonEva and St.Ella were cackling away like the withces of Macbeth (yes I know there were 3 witches in the original but these two more than made up for that).
Oh but Sunita and Karl - not for the first time has PC's direction had me hiding behind the sofa, but this time it was sheer embarassment.
Kylie was the one redeeming feature of Friday night's offerings. I hope she stays around for a long time.
Finally we are done with the Alzheimer story and the dreadful (and dreadfully acted) fireman. Now we wait to emerge from the Sargasso sea-like swill pit that is Sunita and Karl. I'm almost praying for another wayward tram.
sunita and karl - are they worse than Molvin? i hope no babies are produced!!John
I look forward to the David and Kylie scenes now, David has really found a place as a street stalwart already I think, despite his age.
Kylie is well on her way to be the next Raquel/Karen/Becky tart with a heart played by fabulous actress- she'll go onto things.
dhvynel - I dont think we have seen the last of the creep Paul yet and what's all this Im Leaving Weatherfield rubbish with Eileen putting the house up for sale, we all know full well she isnt going anywhere.
I love Kylie, she is an interesting character well played ande she is fun to watch unless the sourfaced moaner Miss Macintyresome, clingy and spoilt Eva, boring and personalityless Maria and the shouty spotty Sophie who has had her contract renewed again everyone will be pleased to know! I often wonder about their sanity up at Corrie Towers!
Great blog! Tommy and Tina are meant to be early 20's but they are written and act like 40 year-olds. Why aren't they going off to see bands in pubs etc? Very boring.
Karl and Sunita must be the biggest romantic mistake in Corrie history. OK, many pairings have had zero chemistry but this is truly, truly awful. I honestly do look away when they're on screen.
Kylie's great as a character and I hope Paula Lane sticks around. She needs a pal, though, to make mischief with.
If Paul comes back, I think we should start a petition and send it to tptb. A squirmy, snivelly, slithery snot bag, he's not welcome.
Kylie and Becky..same person..same scenes re-done. Friday nights episode was just frustrating. The whole Rick/Tommy carry-on in just ridiculous..might have been written by a bunch of 4th graders. I am guessing that Rick will be found dead (another corpse on Coronation St.) and Tommy will be arrested. (yawn)
Karl/Sunita..makes my skin crawl. Sean flouncing out of the Rovers..funny after telling Stella off (yay) I think he's found his niche! Hope he stays at the Bistro. I'll show you to your table..3 feet away. Ha.
Totally with you on Kylie, I love her!
Cracking post!
