I knew it was going to be a great episode from the opening moments with the radio presenters talking over a shot of a snowy street. The highlight of the episode for me was Sylvia's return and her singing, it's great to have her back again, it was nice to see Gary and Izzy reunite too, hopefully this time everything will work out a little better.
In all it was a great classic Corrie Christmas episode!

Except for the overly perfect snow, what a great night of Corrie. Watching Dierdre squirm (hope they build up to a good twisty reveal), Eileen and the turkey, the Platts taking to Becky (Gail Platt, the voice of reason, go figure), FayE giving Gary an in, Nick the hero, boozing and hospital scenes not going OTT, it was one gift after another.
i agree with this post and i was thinking the same after the episode aired i did sort of expect it to be about the fire, and end on bex's liein on the floor..(will she die or live cliffhanger) but it was a GREAT episode well done Corrie!! AND MERRY XMAS XX
Were we waching the same episodes I wonder? The "birth" at the nativity was one of the most awful episodes ever, everyone standing around Katie "having a look" like she was the Odean cinema and another totally unrealistic soap birth all over in 10 minutes flat. Becky wallowing in self pity, when she was the master of her own destiny with Steve. However, this coupling with Tracy who made his life hell for a decade is not credible. The ridiculous "fire" and the creepy Paul turning up unannounced at Eileens with his poor unwell wife in tow, dont they have any other friends or family at all? Bizarre. What was the Rovers doing open Christmas night when no pubs are, the only thing missing was Cruella walking in wearing that necklace. The ukelele playing was just random, and I was expecting a renditoin of When Im Cleaning Winders.
Have to admit I didn't think last night's episode was up too much either. They had such potential for a real comedy Christmas yesterday with what with putting Roy, Hayley, Norris, Emily, Rita and Mary at the same table, then Sylvia arrives back and starts randomly playing a ukelele and singing and they all leave. It just felt like forced comedy and lazy writing, as if it was easier to just write that than come up with some genuine funny dialogue between the bunch. They also had potential with Julie, Brian and Eileen, which I thought was being set up the other day, but there was no sign of Julie and Brian unfortunately last night. Instead, we were subjected to the forever on-going and unrealistic Becky/Tracy/Steve story, which I think could have at least been sidelined a little for Christmas Day.
I thought Rita and Dennis pecking each other was sweet. Would've liked Rita to sing at the end. :)
your Highlight was Sylvia? You must have low standards then. Dont really see why they had to bring her back for this episode, she added nothing, wasnt funny with her singing 1 single bit.
Or we just have different tastes? ^
Sylvia is a great character. I really like her - the only problem is no other characters apart from Roy, Hayley and Dennis seem to be able to stand her! (Well I guess Dennis is fond of her because she gives him freebie fry-ups. lol)
I hope they soften her a little and have her bond with the other older characters. I loved that random ukelele/banjo playing but having them all walk out was just plain bizarre.
Agreed Frostie. The baby arrives early/father can't easily get there plot has been done so often it's mind numbingly dull. It would actually be a novelty to have a normal delivery. It's just ridiculous that in urban Weatherfield an ambulance could not get there in time. And if Chesney dressed as an elf was meant to be funny, it wasn't.
I also thought the Xmas episode was very weak. Having taken the trouble to gather some of the street's best comedic characters together in the cafe, they seemed to have no idea what to do with them. Eileen is being wasted on this really boring and silly Paul and Lesley story. The Tracy/Steve love fest is stretching credulity way beyond breaking point. They went to the trouble of staging a fire and there was no suspense or drama. I couldn't care less about Sofa and Sian.
The only good thing was the Platts and Kylie and Becky being reconciled. But even then, it's a shame that the sisters' complex relationship won't be explored further by two great actresses. It just shows what a huge mistake the stupid Max story was. Oh and there wasn't much about Peter and Carla. That was a mercy.
I liked the Christmas episodes for the most part though the Sylvia uke-banjo bit was rather strange. While I'm not going to enjoy hearing that over the next few weeks leading up to this contest, I do applaud giving the older members a storyline.
I enjoyed the Platt Christmas with Kylie trying to cook and Kylie and Becky finally making up their differences. I really loved last night's scenes with Kirk, Gary and Chesney babysitting. Kirk was a gem!
