As well as the happenings from the cobbles, ITV will be broadcasting a couple of other Corrie programmes during the 50th anniversary week:
Coronation Street: The Big 50 - Billed as the ultimate Coronation Street quiz, cast members and 'celebrity superfans' will be pitted against each other in a test of their knowledge of the past 50 years of Corrie. There are no details yet of who will be taking part but I'm concerned that this will end up with too much inane celebrity banter and not enough (tricky) questions.
We are assured that there will also be plenty of surprises and treats for Corrie fans along the way, though if this ends up as just a few old clips like the embarrassingly awful water bed sketch, then this Corrie fan will be a bit disappointed. I'll be watching it in the hope that my misgivings are unfounded though I'll be keeping a tight hold of the remote control in case Amanda Holden shows her face.
Coronation Street: 50 Years, 50 Moments - 2 hour-long shows telling the stories behind the 50 iconic storylines that have helped define the contribution that Coronation Street has made to British television. The 50 moments have been selected by a distinguished panel, including Tony Warren and Bill Roache.
There'll be comedy classics, murders, love afairs, dramatic exits and the real life issues that grabbed the headlines. Cast, past and present and the writers, directors and producers will provide some insight into how these moments came to our screens. Furthermore, ITV will be giving fans the chance to vote to determine the order of the top 50. We will be bringing you details of how to do that nearer the time.

I HOPE they aren't doing one of these awful compilation programmes with lots of 'celebs' banging on in between clips about how much they love corrie. I can't stand those. Someone about 22 with false teeth and a boob job will say how they enjoyed watching ena sharples while having black pudding at their gran's, I'm sure of it.
Yeah... no "talking head" programmes please!!
I'm with you on the Amanda Holden allergy...
Finally! Someone that feels the same as i do about that flamin waterbed scene! I never though it was that funny, certainly not one of the all time funniest scenes it invariably gets tagged with.
I am guessing those 50 iconic storylines are mostly going to be all the same ones we see over and over on the compilation and anniversary shows in the past. That's why people will vote for them, they're used to seeing them.
I thought I was alone in disliking the waterbed scene. I put it down to the fact that I couldn't abide Reg Holdsworth, and just the thought of Maureen having to get that close to kissing that overgrown cabbage patch doll just turned my stomach!
The waterbed scene is a source of contention in our house, hence this week's poll. Vote early, vote often and don't vote for Reg!
Ooh i didn't see that... off to vote now!
