Interview with Corrie producer, Phil Collinson

There's a wonderfully revealing interview with Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson in the Manchester Evening News. You can read it in full here or here's the highlights below:

He says he's not a hatchet man and that Vicki Entwhistle (Janice Battersby) is leaving of her own free will.

He once auditioned with Antony Cotton for a part in Queer as Folk.

He once appeared in Corrie as a banker who sold John Lindsay a loan! Have a look at him here at corrie.net.

There'll be surprising exits when the tram crashes and kills off people in December. Here's who the Sunday Mirror reckons will be getting killed off - with a handy cut out and keep map of the Street for the easily confused.

And he says there’s also much more to come in the love story between Sophie Webster and Sian Powers.

Danny La Rue said...: I didnt realise Phil Collison was gay, so that's the reason we are getting this tiresome story with Sian and Sophie and Antony Cotton suddenly seems to be flavour of the month again appearing in almost every scene.; 15 August 2010 16:06
Chewy said...: That storyline has been planned for donkey's years, we knew it was gonna happen, and Phil only took over in June, can't really blame him for that, can you?

You can't admit these last three weeks the show has improved massively, no coincidence that Phil's episodes have been on screen for three weeks. It's good to have a producer who is professional, but still cares about the show.; 15 August 2010 16:44

Annie said...: The Mirror is a fetid little rag which has a long track record of making things up as regards Corrie.

That article seems like one big lump of smelly speculation, based on no evidence whatsoever.

From personal experience, "a Corrie insider" usually means the girl who works on reception at the Mirror. Such is the depth of their insight (!); 15 August 2010 21:31

Anonymous said...: Years ago I avoided reading the few 'spoilers' out there, but not these days because they are entertaining in themselves.
I've found they don't necessarily reflect the plans of the writers. They have a smidge of truth the rest is pure spec, so no harm done, only interest generated for the show.; 17 August 2010 17:18
