In response to the post about Stephen Hancock (Ernest Bishop) earlier in the week, John M told us that the storyline of Ernest's murder was his earliest Corrie memory. Back when we broke the news of the planned tram crash, I said that the train crash back in 1967 was my earliest memory. It was certainly the first major story I remember though I have a vague memory, aren't they all nowadays, of Ena and Minnie walking down the street with Ena urging Minnie to hurry up as she was dawdling to avoid stepping on the cracks in the pavement.So, Coronation Street blog readers, what are your earliest memories of goings on down our favourite street?

Des Barnes' being attacked in 1998. That's the first episode I remember.
I think it was Natalie and Des Barnes wedding, I have bits of memories of earlier episodes but thats the one that I can make sense of :p
As i'm still young, my first memories would have to be snipets of Alma having cancer and Richard Hillman's reign of terror.
I think mine's Des Barnes as well. I have a vague memory of him burning his boat, and I think that was around the time I started watching Corrie. What year was that?
I'm young also, I remember watching the Batterbys moving in 1997 and thinking, bring Mavis back! I hated them all but Leanne is one of my favourite characters nowadays.
I don't have any specific memory but instead recall Elsie Tanner on screen a lot in the early 1970s and watching it with my mam and grandma and the two of them tutting at Elsie's antics. I was only a kid at the time and thinking Elsie was the most glamourous woman I'd ever seen.
I had a sort of school girl aged 'crush' as I remember on Jerry Booth,of all people, and I remember my friend had a crush on the very young Ken Barlow!
I remember Valerie Barlow getting electrocuted, which was a, for me, memorable episode! I remember Ernie Bishop being murdered, and Don Brennan being killed when I think a tire he was working on exploded which scared me off filling my own tires for years.An episode that really affected me was when Rene and Alf Roberts were involved in a car accident, Rene was learning to drive I believe, and she died.
I can remember Annie Walker in her last appearances as a 3 year old but I guess the Rovers Fire of 1986 is my clearest memory

I recall Ena Sharples walking into the corner shop, and introducing herself to the new owner Florrie Lindley.
I can remind a lot of storylines over the years. Cannot think of them now, but as soon as someone reminds me; a lot come flooding back.
The first main storyline i remember is Brian Tilsley's death. I was aware of Corrie long before that but never really watched it until early 1989. Got hooked pretty quickly!
Real memories: Lucille dancing on the bar at the Rover's. Albert Tatlock and the too-big dresser. Valerie and Ken and their wedding. Len Fairclough and flash harry Dave Smith propping up the bar. Minnie spoiling both Sonny Jims.
Isn't it hard to separate what you really remember from what you have have merely read about, seen in Corrie retrospectives, and seen described? Memory is a rum old thing.
I remember the first episodes as if they were yesterday. My Mum let me watch with her right from the start and we both became very big fans.
I never had any grandparents but always wished Jack Walker could've been my grandad, he was such a lovely man.
And I remember being a bit scared when Martha Longhurst died in the Rovers.
Apart from about a year when I was 15 or so, I've barely missed an episode.
As we lived in 'Weatherfield' for many years, Corrie was compulsory viewing right from the off, but my first proper memories are Steve Tanner lying a the bottom of the stairs (gave me nightmares that did!) and the first train/tram crash. Oh, and a wonderful scene with Jack and Annie Walker lying in bed with Annie telling Jack that if you looked a the wallpaper and squnted a bit the red roses looked a bit like an ostrich with a hat on. I guess this loses a bit in the translation, but it shows that wonderful Corrie script writing goes back an awful long way. The characterisation and observations have been wonderful from the start. So I have little support for the Johnny-come-latelies with stras in their eyes; they walked in such Hallowed Halls!

I started watching it some time in the 1980s (I think). I remember the Alan Bradley thing (Rita crying a lot with loads and loads of snot)Len Fairclough, Stan Ogden dying, and how they handled that (I vaguely remember he'd seemingly broken his toe, and couldn't get downstairs - Hilda kept shouting up to him)Mavis and Derek with the car with the paperclip on top. Loved Eddie Yeats. No clue as to when any of these storylines actually happened.
I remember Diedre working as a secretary at the builders yard for Len Fairclough and her husband Ray - then Ray cheating on her with a waitress named Janis.
